Let’s talk about the upcoming Full Moon in Aries happening on October 17th. This one’s big, it is another one of those Super Moons too, so it’s fiery, super energized, it’s intense, and it’s all about independence, courage, and bold action. If you’ve been feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward, this Full Moon is here to give you that push you need.
Full Moons, in general, are times of culmination and release. It’s when things come to a head, and you get the chance to see things more clearly. With the Full Moon in Aries, the focus shifts to your desires, your identity, your drive. This is about you and your path, and Aries energy is here to light a fire under you and say, “Let’s do this!”
Full Moon in Aries: Bold Action and Independence
The Bold, Independent Energy of Aries
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, so it’s all about fresh starts, new beginnings, and taking charge. When you think of Aries, think of charging ahead without looking back. It’s fearless, spontaneous, and ready to dive right in. This Full Moon invites you to focus on yourself for a moment and ask, “What do I really want? What’s been holding me back?”
If you’ve been playing it safe or holding back—like I have in some areas of my life—whether it’s from fear, doubt, or just uncertainty, now is the time to release all of that. This is your moment to break through any barriers and step into your personal power. Aries is like that inner voice whispering, “You’ve got this,” even when you’re unsure. It gives you the confidence to leap, even if you’re scared.
The Full Moon is about letting go of things that no longer serve us, creating space for something new. So, ask yourself: What have I been afraid to do? What needs to change for me to feel like I’m moving forward? This is your chance to take bold action. Whether it’s making a big decision, speaking up for yourself, or owning what you want, Aries energy is here to support you.
Time to Let Go and Make Space for What’s Next
One of the key themes of any Full Moon is release. It’s the time to let go of what’s no longer serving you. Think of it like cleaning out your closet, if it’s cluttered with old stuff, there’s no room for anything new. This Aries Full Moon is saying, “Clear it out. Make space.” What are you holding on to that’s weighing you down? Whether it’s an old belief, a relationship that’s run its course, or just fear of the unknown, now’s the time to let it go.
And here’s the beauty of Aries, it’s not just about letting go for the sake of it. Aries wants you to move forward, to do something with that newfound freedom. Once you’ve cleared out what’s no longer needed, you’re ready to take action on those new ideas or dreams that have been lingering in the back of your mind. It’s time to stop waiting for the “perfect moment” and just go for it.
Full Moon Square Mars in Cancer: Emotional Tension
Now, let’s talk about a couple of aspects that are happening alongside this Full Moon. First up, we have the Full Moon squaring Mars in Cancer. Squares in astrology represent tension, and this one could stir up some emotional conflict.
Mars is all about action and drive, but when it’s in Cancer, it’s a bit out of its comfort zone. Cancer is emotional, nurturing, and protective, so there might be a tug-of-war between what you want to do (that fiery Aries energy pushing you to take action) and what you feel (Cancer’s more cautious, emotionally driven energy). You might feel like your head is saying “go for it,” but your heart is pulling you back because of emotional attachments or concerns about how others might feel.
This tension could show up in your personal relationships, especially if you’re trying to assert your independence while also considering the emotional needs of the people around you. It’s important to acknowledge both sides, honor your emotions, but don’t let them completely stop you from moving forward.
Full Moon Square Pluto in Capricorn: Power Struggles and Transformation
Next, we have another square, this time between the Full Moon and Pluto in Capricorn. Now, Pluto is the planet of transformation, power, and deep change. Whenever Pluto is involved, you know something intense is brewing beneath the surface.
This aspect could bring up some power struggles, either with others or within yourself. Pluto in Capricorn is all about structures, authority, and control, and when it’s squaring the Moon in Aries, there’s this push-pull between wanting to break free and do your own thing (Aries) and feeling like you’re trapped by external responsibilities or expectations (Capricorn).
Are there areas in your life where you feel controlled or limited? Whether it’s work, family dynamics, or even your own internal fears, this Full Moon is bringing those power dynamics to the surface. It’s an opportunity to recognize where you’ve been giving away your power and to take it back. It’s not always easy, Pluto brings up the deep stuff, but it’s necessary for real growth.
The good news is that Aries energy is fearless and ready to tackle whatever comes its way. Even if these power struggles feel uncomfortable, this Full Moon can help you break free from what’s been holding you down. With Pluto at the final degree of Capricorn it will most like be something from or belief system and deep rooted beliefs that we are completely done with.
How to Work with This Energy
So, how do you make the most of this powerful Full Moon in Aries? Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Set Intentions and Take Action
This is not the time to sit on the sidelines. Aries wants you to take action—whether it’s starting a new project, having that difficult conversation, or making a big life change. Set clear intentions for what you want and take the first step.
Release What’s Holding You Back
Full Moons are all about letting go. What’s been weighing you down? Is it fear? Self-doubt? An outdated belief? A situation that’s no longer working? This is the time to release it and make room for something better.
Balance Your Emotions
With Mars in Cancer squaring the Full Moon, emotions might be running high. If you’re feeling conflicted, take a moment to acknowledge your emotions without letting them control your actions. Find a balance between your emotional needs and your desire to move forward. (We also have Mars retrograde coming up so here are the dates that it will be at 24° of Cancer, meaning square this Full Moon point which will create activations for us. So make sure and journal what this Full Moon feels like to you and what is happening.) October 20 & 21, 2024. January 19 & 20, 2025. April 2, 3 & 4, 2025.
Confront Power Struggles
The square to Pluto could bring up issues of control or power. Pay attention to where these dynamics are playing out in your life, and don’t be afraid to address them head-on. It’s time to reclaim your power and break free from anything that’s been limiting you.
Embrace Your Independence
Aries is the sign of independence and self-assertion. This is a time to focus on you and what you need. Don’t be afraid to prioritize your own goals and desires, this Full Moon is giving you full permission to be a little selfish (in the best possible way).
Wrapping Up
The Full Moon in Aries on October 17th is a powerful time for taking bold action and embracing your independence. Yes, there may be some emotional tension with the square to Mars in Cancer, and power struggles might arise with Pluto in Capricorn, but these challenges are opportunities for growth. Aries energy doesn’t shy away from a fight, it’s here to help you step into your personal power and move forward with confidence.
So, use this Full Moon to focus on what you truly want, let go of anything that’s been holding you back, and take that leap. Aries is all about courage, so don’t be afraid to go after what you desire. This is your moment to shine.
But wait! I have a little more to say about the Lunar Gestation Cycle
I’m not quite done wrapping this up yet because I want to discuss the lunar gestation cycle—please don't overlook this! Eighteen months ago, we experienced a new moon at a similar degree on April 20, 2023, which was also a solar eclipse at 29° of Aries. When an eclipse is part of the lunar gestation cycle, its energy is exponentially more powerful.
In light of this, I encourage you to reflect on April 20, 2023. Consider what you were doing during that time and any new moon rituals or initiations you undertook. Now, 18 months later, it's time for everything initiated during that period to come to fruition. This is your opportunity to release anything that is no longer useful to you from those beginnings and to move forward.
Eighteen months is a significant timeframe for initiating projects and seeing them to completion.
